Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)
An integral part of our operations
Mako Gold strives for excellence at being a good corporate citizen. To achieve this, we have a number of policies and practices in place to protect and enhance opportunities for our stakeholders. We recognise that attention to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles is an ongoing journey.
More than just the written words in our policies, our culture and behaviour, from top to bottom, exemplifies our values.
We are transparent and uphold integrity in our dealings with all our stakeholders which include our team of employees, the communities where we work, and our shareholders. We promote a 'risk aware culture' pertaining to the environment, safety and security.
Employees are the foundation of our business. Without a hardworking, dedicated, trustworthy team we could not operate as efficiently with our head office in Brisbane, Australia and our project sites in Côte d’Ivoire. We encourage respect for others at all levels, promote diversity, provide training and foster career advancement.
Having the support of the communities in which we work is fundamental to the success of our projects. Our community involvement includes installing a well in collaboration with our drilling contractor Geodrill, to provide clean drinking water, continually improving access roads for communities, hiring and training of local workforce and supporting community celebrations and group gatherings, such as the Côte d’Ivoire Independence Day celebrations and the Komborodougou Youth Workshop.
Mako cares for the environment in which we work. Drill pads and cut-lines are kept to a minimum size, cutting of large and commercial trees is avoided and regrowth is encouraged. Records are maintained for all land disturbances, crop compensation and safety and environmental incidences. On-site daily and weekly meetings encourage discussions in relation to the above.
Mako recognises the importance of earning the trust and respect of our stakeholders. We aim to be transparent in all we do through good governance. At the local level, our Operations Manager and Community Liaison Officer provide ongoing engagement with the local interest groups, traditional leaders and government authorities. A register is kept of all community interactions. At the corporate level, Mako’s Managing Director provides regular updates and can be contacted to discuss any concerns or provide explanation of Mako’s activities to all shareholders, potential investors and stakeholders.
